Relics, used to ask for recovery or to show gratitude.

In churches on Crete you will often find small metal plates with an image that represents a body part. These relics were placed there by those that have or had an illness in that particular body part, hoping for recovery or to show gratitude once recovered. The relic must be placed with the saint that can cure you of certain ailments.

Women that would like to get pregnant place a relic with a baby in front of the Panagia, the Mother of God. To show gratitude one also tends to donate gold or silver jewellery that is put in front of the icon.
