Routaki city walk- ‘Rethymnon’

8,30

About the Tour – You’ll have a chance to:

  • Learn about an area called after the horse shoes, in Greek ‘Petaladika‘. Look at the signs, and you see them as a tribute to the former owners.
  • You probably will notice the yellow flag with the bird on the many churches. This flag is the symbol of the Greek Orthodox Church. It originally belonged to the Byzantine emperor.
  • Listen to the story about the statue of Kostis Giampoudakis; A Cretan hero and leading figure in the self-sacrifice action in the monastery of Arkadi on the 8th of November in 1866.
  • Visit the little Cretan Instrument shop of Papalexakis. He makes the typical Cretan instruments all by hand. The most important one called the lyre.
  • Stand in the Erofyli open-air theatre, home to the Renaissance Festival, which has been proudly supported by the municipality of Rethymnon for over twenty years.

On this 3 to 4 hour tour, created to fill a whole day, you ‘ll get to know this university city. Mr. Routaki will inform you at the right moment and on the right spot. But… you are still free to make your own choices.
