Agioi Deka and the ten Cretan Christians.

Nederlands talige teksten

Agioi Deka owes its name to ten Cretan Christians who where tortured to death because of betrayal to the Romans. They refused to participate in the inauguration of the temple to the goddess Tyche.
On the exact spot where they were decapitated now stands a Byzantian church. Inside the church you will find a relic with the knee prints of the Christians that were decapitated.

Agioi Deka was founded on the remains of Gortys, meaning that Gortys was a rather large settlement.
